Old Scores and Second Chances [For allthegloves]

Mutants, Erik was convinced, had to stand together. Any split in their strength was a weakness. The humans would exploit their weaknesses; he didn't understand why nobody could see it.

He didn't, however, assume he would see her again after their text conversation. She'd made it pretty clear that she wasn't interested in seeing his point of view, however valid. He was surprised, then, to walk into a cafe in New York City and see her sitting there, alone. He got a coffee and slid into the seat across from her.

"I take it this seat is free."

John Allerdyce learned nothing that spoke to him in Charles Xavier's school. It wasn't until he joined the Brotherhood of Mutants that he felt he understood his purpose. Magneto was the only one who made sense.

When he saw her, just shopping like a normal person, he immediately looked around for Bobby. But Bobby wasn't there.

The door was on the other side of the room. He headed for it, hoping she wouldn't see him.

There wasn’t any special reason she was shopping. It was more of a milling around, trying to occupy her thoughts, buying a new pair of gloves kind of day. One of those days when she didn’t expect anything out of the ordinary to happen.

So when it did Rogue froze in place, unsure of what she should do.

She almost hadn’t recognized him — it had been long enough, hadn’t it? — but with the way he was hightailing it to the exit, Rogue was pretty sure he’d seen her. Typical.

It wasn’t until he’d actually reached the door that she followed him to the door of the shop, waiting until she was out on the street where she’d be moderately less conspicuous. “John.” It was loud enough that she was pretty sure he’d hear her. And if he didn’t stop
Then he was definitely going out of his way to dodge her.

Magneto/Rogue

Rogue was the type to need time to herself every once in a while. The school tended to be loud and crowded and it had a tendency to give her a headache. The other thing that tended to give her a headache was arguing mutant politics.

She wasnt completely stupid. She actually did understand some of the points behind what the Brotherhood was doing. It wasn’t entirely the message — maybe because she had memories of the camp Erik had spent time in as a child — it was the methods. Though she didn't seem to be getting anywhere trying to convince Erik of that.

Honestly, it seemed pointless and circular. Trying to convince someone who thought the Earth was flat that it was round.

Pure frustration and and aggravation.

So when she heard his voice, and of course it was familiar to her, having it in her head and all, she glanced up from her cup of coffee in surprise. It didn’t seem like he was waiting for an invitation. “You’re not following me, are you?”

She probably shouldn’t have said anything about the memories; it always seemed to weird people out. And that was kind of
Why she’d said it: she was frustrated and annoyed and was attempting not to tell him to get fucked again. So she’d hit below the belt.

That was apparently a huge mistake.

“You’re stil focuses on that? Look, there’s nothing I can do about it. And, I told you, I don’t talk about it to anyone.” It was one thing she was very careful about: people didn’t ask to have their memories stuck in her head and she went to great lengths to keep their secrets. Even the things that weren’t secrets she didn’t talk about. It wasn’t her place.

"And I had the right not to have your memories forced on me, but here we are."

It wasn't entirely clear whether she was being difficult on purpose or whether she was avoiding the memories because they were painful. Or both. It was probably both. The discomfort of a number of Erik's memories combined with not wanting to make things easy on him.
