adjusting to darkness...[Open to all]

Betsy was struggling with her sudden blindness. She still didn't know the exact reason behind it, but she knew that it frightened her. She now had to rely on her hearing and touch to move around. The things that were so basic and natural, were now so foreign to her.

"Where are those damn shoes?" She muttered to herself as she fumbled around the floor. After a few moments, she got to her feet, frustrated, and felt for the door instead. She decided she would go get some fresh air, if she could find her way out. She fumbled with the door handle, and unsteadily made her way to the railing of the stairs.

"Damn...damn it..." She stubbed her toe on the railing and stumbled down a few steps, her hands gripping the rail to catch herself.

He was walking up the stairs and she looked about to tumble down them. He strode quickly up the remaining steps between them and took her arm firmly.

"What are you doing?"

"There are many people you could ask for help," Erik admonished, leading her down the stairs. "You're going to break your neck trying to do everything yourself before you've had a chance to acclimate."

"You need to be patient with yourself. To develop your other abilities."

They reached the bottom of the stairs.

"You're a telepath. Use your second sight to see."

"I'm not known for patience either, and helping mutants develop their power is far more in the realm of Charles' expertise, but even I can see that working on your telepathy and learning to trust yourself is the most reasonable course of action for you. But you need to choose it."

"You should go to Charles. He'll work with you. Much more productively than I could."

He led her towards the front doors.

"You'll need a coat."

He paused, glancing around, then going to the closet near the door and finding an old coat, which he put around her shoulders.

"Stop thanking me," he told her. "The whole point of this place is that mutants have to look after each other."

He steered her outside.

"If I can find it in my heart to help train that obnoxious brat Lorna, then it's really no hardship to take you outside for some air," he told her.

"Her control is improving. Her general insolence and lack of manners is not."

He shrugged and tucked her hand into the crook of his elbow so he could slide his hands into his pockets for warmth.

"It's going about as expected."

"Feel free to try," Erik told her dubiously. He didn't think there was much to be done about the stubborn girl's attitude.

"Ten-thirty in the morning," he told her. He glanced over. "Perhaps someone should work with you daily. I'm sure Charles would be able to manage it."

Even with their project going on in the sublevels.

"Grey," he replied. "Snowy. Ororo sees to it."

He glanced around.

"I don't know that we can keep such thick winter up for much longer without arousing suspicion beyond Stryker."
